ASJCC NEWSLETTER NO. 7 07.05.20 Scottish charity No. SC46585

Hello Everyone.

We are through yet another week of lockdown. I hope that you managed to get onto the talks by both J David Simons and Ethel Hofman that were organised for our fundraising.

Fundraising

We are still thinking of ways to fundraise. One suggestion has been to produce a Kosher cookbook, details yet to be finalised. Also fundraising via Facebook is an option. Please let us know what you think.

We have so far managed to raise, with the help of SCoJeC, around £2500 via the 3 authors talks. Obviously we need to raise a lot more.

Support during Covid 19 lockdown

Please again, if anyone needs help during this time, for food shopping,

medicine collection etc please let me know on: communitysupp.asjcc@gmail.com

We do have several volunteers who are waiting to help you.

Basement Flat

We no longer have a tenant in the basement flat and are looking for a new tenant. If you know of anyone who is looking for somewhere to live, please contact Mark Taylor at treasurer.asjcc@gmail.com to discuss. We do need the income from this flat to keep us afloat.

Mental Health & Well Being

If you are suffering any mental health issues and feel that you need to talk to someone, there are some numbers to ring, or websites to use. www.clearyourhead.scot can give you tips and ideas on how to cope in ways to make you feel better, stay connected with others and keep perspective while staying at home. The link will also signpost to further support e.g. NHS inform, Breathing Space and the Samaritans. If you wish to speak to a Jewish counsellor, you can contact a variety of services e.g. Jewish Care in London 0208 922 2222, Jewish Care Glasgow or find an organization through the SCoJeC website, or the Grampian Coronavirus Assistance Hub https://www.gcah.org.uk/ Tel: 0800 196 3384 (between 8 and 8pm) or https://jscn.org.uk/anxiety-mental-health/

I also have a couple of helpful leaflets on managing relationships during lockdown and managing anxiety. If you would like me to send you a copy, please email me at communitysupp.asjcc@gmail.com and I will send them on. They are too long to add to the newsletter. They have been provided by a consultant Psychologist.

SCoJec

SCoJec have a lot of resources on their website; there is a mini website inside which is dedicated to Covid-19. It has useful links to many different services, synagogue services, arts groups, coffee mornings, and other. Please use this resource – www.scojec.org.

An initiative, which although based in London, is reaching out to the whole community. They offer free advice and help to unemployed people, through a variety of resources. Their website is www.resource-centre.org. They will be very happy to talk to anyone and hopefully will be able to help, even those people who have been furloughed.
